Ethiopia: fire destroys UNESCO-registered coffee forest

(OPride) – A recent massive brush fire in the Illu Abba Boora zone of Oromia region, Ethiopia has wiped out a sizable portion of the UNESCO-registered Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve, reports said. The cause of the blaze, which has spread around the Yayu forest over the last several weeks, remains unknown.

According to eyewitness accounts, the blaze has scorched an estimated 50 to 80 acres of the thick coffee forest. “Such fire has never happened before in the history of the Yayu forest and the knowledge of the people living in the area,” one Yayu resident, who asked not to be named, told OPride. “It has been burning for several weeks without any intervention from the government except that of the local community to contain it to protect its advancement to their side.” The internationally recognized Yayu forest is home to the last remaining species of wild coffee Arabica and some of Ethiopia’s rare flora and bird species.

Several diaspora-based activists have accused the government for setting the forest ablaze to make a way for its development projects. The state-run media ignored the fire, and instead reported on a new fertilizer factory being built near the area. Citing several “journalists working for the government TV and radio stations,” New York-based political analyst Jawar Mohammed said, Ethiopian authorities have once again imposed a media blackout warning local reporters, including those working for state-run media houses, not to cover the story.

በስደት አገራቸውን ለቀው የወጡ ሰዎች ያለመሰለል መብት አላቸው። በህግም የተደነገገ ነው። ከለላ የሰጣቸውም አገር ይህንን የመከላከልና የመቃወም ግዳጅም አለበት። ከለላ ያገኙ ስደተኞችም ሆኑ ከለላ እንዲሰጣቸው ያመለከቱ ወገኖች ስለመሰለላቸው ተጨባጭ ማስረጃ ማቅረብ ከቻሉ ህጉን ጠቅሰው የመከራከር መብት አለቸው። ለመብታቸው ሲከራከሩ በመደራጀት ቢሆን ይበልጥ ውጤታማ ሊሆኑ እንደሚችሉ አውሮፓ በስደት ያሉ ቀድሞ የውጪ ጉዳይ የዲያስፖራ ኢንጌጅመንት ዳይሬክቶሬት ዲፓርትመንት ኤክስፐርት ይናገራሉ።

እኚሁ ሰው እንደሚሉት ከ1997 ዓ ም ምርጫ በኋላ በአቶ መለስ ቀጥተኛ ትዕዛዝ የተቋቋመው ይህ ዲፓርትመንት ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩና ለወቅቱ የውጪጉዳይ ሚኒስትር አቶ ስዩም መስፍን ሪፖርት ያቀርብ ነበር። በጁላይ 2003 ስድስት አባላትን በመያዝ የተቋቋመው ዲፓርትመንት “ብዙሃን አድፋጭ” ዲያስፖራ ወይም “silent majority” የሚባሉትን ለመማረክና በስደት ውጪ አገር የሚኖሩትን የተቃዋሚ ድርጅት ዋና ደጋፊዎችንና አመራሮችን የሚከታተል ቻፕተሮች አሉት።

የአገዛዙ ደጋፊ ለሚባሉት ዲያስፖራዎች የቀረጥ ነጻ መብት በመስጠት፣ መሬት በማደል፣ በማህበራት በማደራጀት ቢቻል መታወቂያ በመስጠት፣ “ለአገር ግንባታ ደጋፊ ማድረግ” በሚል ሽፋን በያሉበት አገር ከኤምባሲ ጋር ግንኙነት እንዲፈጥሩ በማድረግ የተዘረጋው መዋቅር የአውሮፓውን የክትትል ስራ በግንባር ቀደምትነት እንዲመራ የመደበው የብራስልስ ኤምባሲን ነው። በቤልጂየም ኢትዮጵያ ኤምባሲ ካውንስለር በመሆን የሚያገለግሉት የቀድሞው የህወሃት ታጋይ ይህንኑ የአውሮፓ የክትትል ቻፕተር እንደሚመሩት የሚያስረዱት የቀድሞ የውጪ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትር ሰራተኛ የቻፕተሩን ጠርናፊ “አቶ መለስ በታመሙበት ወቅት ብራስልስ ሆነው አስፈላጊውን ሁሉ ሲያደርጉ የነበሩ የስርዓቱ ታማኝ ሰው ናቸው” ሲሉ ይገልጹዋቸዋል።

Lemma came to the United States from Ethiopia for what she and her family thought was an educational exchange program when she was 13-years-old; after she arrived, she was told she had been adopted.

Once she learned what her adoption meant for her future, Lemma felt “a lot of grief and anger.”

“I didn’t want a new family because I had a family in Ethiopia,” said Lemma, who will start her freshman year at college in the fall. The family that tried to adopt Lemma and her two younger sisters changed their names and even stopped them from speaking their native language.

 Oromo-Norwegians, representing the ethnic Oromo of Oromia in Ethiopia demonstrates this afternoon at a meeting organized by the Ethiopian authorities at the SAS hotel by Holberg place in Oslo.

Around 150 people had turned up to protest the event.

” It does not go peacefully. We must try to keep them away from the hotel entrance”, said operations manager of the Oslo police Hilde Walsø to Dagbladet 15.30 o’clock

Then no one was arrested.

-”It was decided that we would go to the arrests, but then they got one last chance, and when they chose to break up the demonstration, said Walsø.

During the selection, as it was not sought permission for, a total of 11 people arrested for public nuisance. No one was injured.

ኢትዮጵያ በየአመቱ የምታመርተው ምርት የአለምን ገበያ 20 በመቶ የሚሸፍን ሲሆን፣ እገዳውም በአለም የታንታለም ዋጋ ላይ ከፍተኛ ተጽእኖ አሳርፎ ቆይቷል። ዶድ ፍራንክ የተባለው ህግ ኩባንያዎች ግጭት ባለባቸው አገሮች ማእድኖችን ሲገዙ ማእድኖቹ ከግጭቶች ጋር የተያያዙ አለመሆናቸውን ማረጋገጥ አለባቸው ስለሚልና በአለም ላይ አብዛኛውን የታንታለም ማእድን የምታመርተው በጦርነት የምትታመሰዋ ዲሞክራቲክ ኮንጎ  በመሆኗ ኢትዮጵያ በማእድን መላኩ ላይ የጣለችው እገዳ በአለም የታንታለም ገበያ ላይ ከፍተኛ ጫና ፈጥሯል።

እውነት ለመናገር ኢህአዴግ በ”ስሜት” ተነሳስቶ በ2002 ዓ.ም መጨረሻ ላይ ያዘጋጀው “የእድገትና የትራንስፎርሜሽን እቅድ” አልሳካ ያለው በጠ/ሚ ኃይለማርያም ደሳለኝ ድክመት አይደለም። እቅዱ እንደማይሳካ በተግባር የታየው በመጀመሪያው አመት በ2003 ዓ.ም ነው። አምና ደግሞ፤ የእቅዱ ውድቀት አፍጥጦ ወጣ። በዚህ በዚህ፣ አቶ ኃይለማርያም ከሌሎች የኢህአዴግ መሪዎች የተለየ ተጠያቂነት ሊጫንባቸው አይገባም። በአብዛኛው የመንግስት ፕሮጀክቶች በማስፋፋት የአገሪቱን ኢኮኖሚ በአምስት አመት ውስጥ በእጥፍ ለማሳደግ ታስቦ እቅድ መውጣቱ ነው ዋነኛው ጥፋት። በመንግስት ፕሮጀክቶችና ኮርፖሬሽኖች አማካኝነት አገር ሊያድግ እንደማይችል በደርግ ዘመን በደንብ ታይቷልኮ።

የኢህአዴግ “የእድገትና የትራንስፎርሜሽን እቅድም” ከውድቀት ሊያመልጥ የማይችለው፤ እንደ ደርግ እቅድ የግል ኢንቨስትመንትንና የግል ጥረትን የሚያጣጥ በመሆኑ ነው – በአጭሩ በአቶ ሃይለማርያም ድክመት አይደለም የኢህአዴግ እቅድ ሳይሳካ የሚቀረው። ይልቅስ፣ ጠ/ሚ ኃይለማርያምን ተጠያቂ የምናደርጋቸው፤ የአምስት አመቱ እቅድ እንደማይሳካ እየታወቀ፤ “እየተሳካ ነው፤ እንደታቀደው እየተሰራ ነው” ብለው ሊያድበሰብሱ ከሞከሩ ነው። በእርግጥ፤ እቅዱ እየተሳካ አለመሆኑን ሙሉ ለሙሉ አልካዱም። የእርሻ ምርት እንደታሰበው አላደገም ብለዋል። ኤክስፖርትም እንዲሁ።

TPLF is planning again to have fundraising event in Norway Oslo on April 28,2013 by denying the voice of people for justice.

As we all know on April 20,2013 TPLF send two representatives from the Ethiopian Embassy in Stockholm with the agenda of Nile dam fundraising program in Stavanger, Norway and close to 300 Ethiopians in Norway has present in the meeting and brought their question of Justice, freedom and Human Rights but the representatives who has been in the place came up with their own agenda and ignored the mass voice as TPLF usually does. Because of this reason the Ethiopians get angry and shout justice and Freedom before Nile dam and express their opposition clearlly they will not cooprate with TPLF’s agenda before their question for justice has been answered ,so that the Norwegian Polices stopped the program before things are getting worse. And these has been on the Norwegian Aftenbladt News at the same day.

After these on wensday 24 ,April 2013 on Ethiopian Radio And Television Agency has been reported a vice versa lie News saying Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin in stavanger, Norway have demonstrated their commitment to national development by purchasing government saving bonds worth million Birr support of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project. Additionally Ethiopian News in Sweden has reported similar News!

Today again some TPLF agents are distributing flyers which says they will have the same Fundraising event and meeting on April 28, 2013 sunday starting from 15:00 upto 00:00hrs.

And alot of Ethiopians from different areas of Norway are on the way to Oslo for 28 April and Ethiopians who live in Oslo are preparing again to demonstrate with question of Justice and freedom before Nile Dam Fundraise!

በአፍሪካ ህብረት 50ኛ ዓመት ክብረ በዓል ላይ ከሚገኙት የተለያዩ እንግዶችና ባለስልጣናት በተጨማሪ አራት ታላላቅ መሪዎች እንደሚገኙ እየተነገረ ነው። በዋናነት የሚጠቀሱት የአሜሪካው ፕሬዚዳንት ኦባማ ሲሆኑ፣ የቻይና አቻቸውም ዋናውና ታላቁ እንግዳ እንደሚሆኑ ይጠበቃል።

የውጪ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትር ጆን ኬሪ ባለፈው ረቡዕ ለአሜሪካ ኮንግረንስ ኮሚቴ የተናገሩትን በመጥቀስ ዜናውን የላኩልን ክፍሎች እንዳሉት ኦባማ ወደ ኢትዮጵያ ሊያመሩ ይችላሉ።

“በአፍሪካ ብዙ የምንሰራው ስራ አለን” ሲሉ የተናገሩት ኬሪ “በድግሱ” ላይ እንደሚገኙ አረጋግጠዋል። እየተጣጣመ የመጣው የአፍሪካና የቻይና ፍቅር እንዲሁም ቻይና በአፍሪካ ያላት ሰፋ ያለ ኢንቨስትመንት ለአሜሪካ አሳሳቢ ከመሆኑ ባሻገር ቻይና የምትከተለው የንግድ ስልት በአጠቃላዩ ሁኔታ ላይ አሉታዊ ተጽዕኖ ማሳደሩን ውጪ ጉዳይ ሚ/ር ኬሪ አልሸሸጉም፡፡ ዝርዝር ከመስጠት ቢቆጠቡም ጉቦ፣ ሙስና፣ አምባገነኖችን መርዳት በማለት የተወሰኑትን በግልጽ ከመጥቀስ አላለፉም፡፡

ኦባማም ወደ ኢትዮጵያ የሚያቀኑበት ጉዳይ አሜሪካ በአፍሪካ ለምትከተለው አዲስ እቅድ ማጠናከሪያ ካስማ ለመቸንከር እንደሆነ አብዛኞች ይስማሙበታል። “ቻይናን በቅርብ ሆኖ መቆጣጠር” በሚለው መርህ  የአፍሪካን አምባገነኖች ወታደራዊ ድጋፍ በመስጠት ልቡናቸውን የመስለብ እቅድ ይዛ እየሰራች ያለችው አሜሪካ፣ የቻይናና የአፍሪካ ግንኙነት “የፓለቲካ እባጭ” የሆነባት ቻይና ድፍን የአፍሪካ መሪዎችን ቤጂንግ ጋብዛ ወዳጅነቷን አደባባይ በማውጣት ጸሐይ ካስመታቸው በኋላ ነበር። በርካታ መረጃዎችም በዚሁ ዙሪያ ቀርበዋል።

  የህወሓት መሪዎች ከስልጣን መውረድ የማይፈልጉበት ምክንያት (1) እስካሁን የሰሩት ጥፋት እንዳይጋለጥ ይሰጋሉ። (2) የትእምትን ሃብት ማጣት ኣይፈልጉም። (3) ፓርቲው ስልጣን ከለቀቀ ልክ እንደ የድሮ የደርግ ባለስልጣናት በጠላትነት ተፈርጀው ከሀገር የሚባረሩ ይመስላቸዋል።
  
  ‘ትእምት ግን የማን ነው?’ ብለን ስንጠይቅ መልሱ ‘የህወሓት መሪዎች’ የሚል እንደሚሆን ግልፅ ነው። ባለፈው የህወሓት ማእከላዊ ኮሚቴ ኣባልና የማረት ሓላፊ ኣቶ ተክለወይኒ ኣሰፋ ትእምት የህወሓት ንብረት እንጂ የትግራይ ህዝብ ሃብት እንዳልሆነ መናገሩ የሚገልፅ post ኣድርጌ ነበር። (መረጃው ያገኘሁት ከፌስቡክ ጓደኛየ ነበር)። መቼና የት እንደተናገረው መጥቀስ እንዳለብኝ ከጓደኞቼ ኣስተያየት ደርሶኛል።
  
  ከተሰጡኝ ኣስተያየቶች በመነሳት ለማጣራት ስሞክር ተክለወይኒ ኣሰፋ ይሄን የተናገረው ባለፈው ዓመት ሮብ ሚያዝያ 10, 2004 ዓም ሲሆን ቦታው በMIT የስብሰባ ኣዳራሽ እንደነበር ለመረዳት ችያለሁ። ‘ለምን ያን እንዲናገር (ኣምኖ እንዲቀበል) ተገደደ?’ የሚለውን ጥያቄ መመለስ ተገቢ ነው፣ ምክንያቱም ብዙ ግዜ (ወይ ሁልግዜ) የህወሓት መሪዎች ትእምት የግል ሃብታቸው መሆኑ እያወቁ ለፖለቲካ ፍጆታ ሲባል ግን ‘ትእምት የህዝብ ነው’ ይሉን ነበር።

Ethiopia: Concern about two journalist held since June 2011 for terrorism?

(Thomson Reuters Foundation) Reporters Without Borders is very worried about two journalists, Woubeshet Taye and Reyot Alemu, who have been detained since June 2011 and were given long jail sentences more than a year ago on terrorism charges.

Taye, who was the deputy editor of the Amharic-language weekly Awramba Times, was transferred on 19 April to a detention centre in Ziway, 130 km southeast of the capital, Addis Ababa. Alemu, a columnist for the national weekly Fitih and recent winner of an international media freedom prize, is in very poor health.

“Nine months after a new prime minister took over following Meles Zenawi’s death, the Ethiopian government continues to be as inflexible as ever,” Reporters Without Borders said.

“The prolonged detention of these two innocent journalists, Taye’s recent transfer to a place far from his family, and the lack of medical care for Alemu are indicative of the government’s intransigence and have dashed all hope of a more tolerant attitude to media freedom.”

Ethiopia denies ‘shirking responsibility’ in Somalia

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 26 – Ethiopia denied Thursday that it was “shirking responsibility” by beginning to withdraw its troops from conflict-stricken Somalia.

Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom told the UN Security Council that other countries were informed “months” ago about the withdrawal and also complained about the lack of “burden-sharing” for the foreign force in Somalia.

His comments came after Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said Ethiopia was “anxious” to pull its forces out of Somalia and called on the African Union force in the country, AMISOM, to speed up its deployment.

Ethiopian troops crossed into Somalia in November 2011 and have played a decisive role in routing Shebab extremists and maintaining control over areas clawed back from Islamist groups.

AMISOM has played a key role in propping up a transitional government that is the first serious administration in the lawless country since the fall of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.

Ethiopia pulled its troops from the southern town of Hudur suddenly in mid-March, however, and the Shebab took back the town to claim their first military success since they were chased out of Mogadishu in August 2011.

የቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ፕሬዝዳንት ኮሎኔል መንግሥቱ ኃይለ ማርያም አርፈዋል ሲል የዜምባብዌ ቴሌቪዥን መዘገቡን የሚጠቁሙ ፅሁፎች በአንዳንድ ብሎጎችና በፌስ ቡክ ተሰራጭተዋል ። ይሁንና የዚምባብዌ መንግሥት ባለሥልጣናት ስለ መንግሥቱ ማረፍ ስለሚናፈሰው ወሬ የሚያውቁት ነገር እንደሌለ ለሐራሬ የዶቼቬለ ወኪል አስታውቀዋል ። ዴቼቬለ ዚምባብዌ ደውሎ በስልክ ያነጋገራቸው የ ኮሎኔል መንግሥቱ ዘመድ ነኝ ያሉ ግለሠብም የቀድሞው መሬ ሞተዋል የተባለው ሃሰት ነው ሲሉ ተናግረዋል ። ከ1983 ዓም አንስቶ ዚምባብዊ የሚኖሩት የቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ፕሬዝዳንት ኮሎኔል መንግሥቱ ኃይለ ማርያም ማረፋቸውን የሚጠቁሙ መረጃዎች በብሎጎችና በፌስ ቡክ ከወጣ ጥቂት ሳምንታት ተቆጥረዋል ። ማህበራዊ መገናኛ ብዙሃኑ የመረጃቸው ምንጭ የሚሉትም የዜምባብዊ ብሔራዊ ቴሌቪዥን ጣቢያን ነው ። ይሁንና የዚምባብዌ ማስታወቂያ ሚኒስቴር ስለተናፈሰው ወሬ የሚያውቀው ነገር እንደሌለ ነው ያስታወቀው ።

ሃራሪ ዚምባብዌ የሚገኘው የዶቼቬለ ወኪል ኮሉምቡስ ማቭሁንጋ የማስታወቂያ ሚኒስቴር ባለሥልጣናትን ስለጉዳዩ ጠይቆ ያገኘውን መልስ ነግሮናል ።

አዋሽ ወንዝ በጥቂት ወራት ውስጥ የሚሊዮኖችን ህይወት ለአደጋ አጋልጦ ከጥቅም ውጭ ሊሆን ይችላል ተባለ

ኢሳት ዜና:-ብሉበርግ ትናንት ይዞት በወጣው አስደንጋጭ ዘገባ በስምጥ ሸለቆ ውስጥ የሚገኘው የበሰቃ ሀይቅ በመስኖ ስራዎች እና በተፈጥሮ እንቅስቃሴ ምክንያት ጨዋማነቱ በ15 እጥፍ በመጨመሩ በሰኔ ወር ዝናብ ከዘነበና  ሀይቁ ወደ አዋሽ ወንዝ መፍሰስ ከጀመረ ፣ ወንዙን ለመጨረሻ ጊዜ ከጥቅም ውጭ ያደርገዋል ሲል ጠቅሷል።.

ስራ ጋር በተያያዘ በተፈጠረ የአፈር መሸርሸርና በመሬት የውስጥ እንቅስቃሴ ምክንያት ጨዋማነቱ ከመጠን በላይ እየጨመረ በመሄዱ የሚሊዮኖችን ህይወት ለአደጋ አጋልጧል።
በውሀ እና ኢነርጂ ሚኒስቴር የከርሰ ምድር ውሀዎች ዋና ሀላፊ የሆኑት አቶ ተስፋ ታደሰ ፣ “ሀይቁ በራሱ ጊዜ ወደ አዋሽ መፍሰስ ከጀመረ የአዋሽ ወንዝ ለዘላለሙ ከጥቅም ውጭ ይሆናል።” ብለዋል።

የላይሻው አዋሽ ወንዝ የውሀ ጥናት ባለሙያ የሆኑት አቶ  እንደሻው ታደሰ  ደግሞ የሰኔ ዝናብ ከመዝነቡ በፊት ሀይቁ ወደ አዋሽ ወንዝ እንዳይፈስ ወሳኝ ጥረት መደረግ አለበት ሲሉ አሳስበዋል። ባለሙያው እንደሚሉት ከአዲስ አበባ በስተምስራቅ የሚገኘው ሀይቅ ወደ ወንዙ ከፈሰሰ ከተሞችን ከማጥለቅለቅ አልፎ የአካባቢውን አርብቶ አደሮች ሊያፈናቅላቸው ይችላል።

ብሉበርግ እንደሚለው መንግስት ላለፉት 14 አመታት የውሀ ፓምፖችን በመጠቀምና ቦዮችን በመስራት በሰቃን ለመቆጣጠር ጥረት ቢያደርግም አልተሰካላትም።

በአለማያ ዩኒቨርስቲ የሲቪል ኢንጂነርግ ረዳት ፕሮፌሰር የሆኑት መገርሳ  ዲንቃ እንደተናገሩት በአካባቢው የሚደረገው የመስኖ ስራ  ችግሩን አባብሶታል። ፕሮፌሰሩ የመሬት እንቅስቃሴው ለሀይቁ መስፋፋት ተጨማሪ አስተዋጽኦ አድርጎ ሊሆን እንደሚችልም ገልጸዋል።

የመንግስት ባለስልጣናት ከዚህ ቀደም በላይኛው አዋሽ ላይ ሲካሄድ የነበረው የመስኖ እንቅስቃሴ ችግሩን እንዳባባሰው ለማመን ተገደዋል።

በመተሀራ አካባቢ ያለውን የላይኛው የአዋሽ አግሮ እንዱስተሪ ኢንተርፕራይዝ፣ የሼክ ሙሀመድ አላሙዲ ንብረት የሆነው ሆራይዞን ፕላንቴሽን በቅርቡ መግዛቱ ይታወሳል። የሆራይዞን ዋና ስራ አስኪያጅ አቶ ጀማል አህመድ እንዳሉት በላይኛው አዋሽ ላይ የሚካሄደው የመስኖ ስራ ምንም አይነት የአካባቢ ተጽኖ አላመጣም፤ ይሁን እንጅ ድርጅታቸው ችግሩን ለማጥናት ከመንግስት ጋር ለመተባበር ዝግጁ ነው ብለዋል።
የበሰቃ ሀይቅ ወደ አዋሽ ወንዝ ከፈሰሰ 23 ሚሊዮን ዶላር የወጣበት የሼክ ሙሀመድ አላሙዲ ድርጅት፣ ከህንድ አገር በተገኘ የ640 ሚሊዮን ዶላር ብድር የማስፋፍያ ስራ የሚሰራለት የተንዳሆ ስኳር ፋብሪካ፣ 30 ሺ ነዋሪዎች የሚኖሩባቸው  መተሀራ እና አዲስ ከተማ እንዲሁም የመተሀራና የተንዳሆ የስኳር ፋብሪካዎች ሙሉ በሙሉ ከጥቅም ውጭ ይሆናሉ።ው በመካከለኛው አዋሽ አካባቢ ያለው የአምቢባራ ቢዝነዝ ግሩፕ ንብረት የሆነው የጥጥ እርሻ እና በአጣቃላይ ድምራቸው 5 ቢሊዮን ዶላር ካፒታል ያላቸው ፕሮጀክቶች በሙሉ ከጥቅም ውጭ ይሆናሉ።

Generational Shift May Shake Up Ethiopian Politics After Meles Zenawi

 The death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in August 2012 marked the end of an era in contemporary Ethiopian politics. After defeating the brutal Derg regime in 1991, Meles headed the powerful ruling party that led the country of more than 80 million through a massive transformation. But it is a mistake to think of his tenure as a period of one-man rule or his death as creating either a political vacuum or an opportunity for liberal reform, as power, authority and resources never rested in Meles’ hands alone.

Meles’ Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) created an Ethiopia based around ethnically defined regions and political parties, state control over land and other key economic assets and a strong authoritarian political party. Meles’ aim was to create a developmental state through revolutionary democracy, a project that more closely resembled the Chinese model than Western notions of liberalism. Levels of economic growth have been high and the expansion of health care impressive. At the same time, however, Ethiopia has effectively criminalized dissent and made it virtually impossible for civil society organizations to engage in human rights monitoring or democratization initiatives.

Many reflections on Meles’ leadership have pointed to his personal qualities and his complicated and often quite contentious legacies. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice gave a laudatory speech at his funeral, calling him “an uncommon leader, a rare visionary and a true friend to me and many.” But Meles left behind a larger set of interlinked interests that include key figures in each of the ethnic parties that make up the EPRDF coalition; powerful economic institutions and mass organizations controlled by leading members of the ruling party; and, most importantly, the large and disciplined military and security services. This old order remains fundamentally in place even after Meles’ passing. While formal authority has shifted to Hailemariam Dessalegn, a former deputy prime minister who has now ascended to the top post, it is clear that power remains embedded within this network of party, economic and military institutions, at least for now.

የማረሚያ ቤቱ ድራማ በርዕዮት እምቢተኝነት ከሸፈ

ባሳለፍነው እሁድና ሰኞ በቃሊቲ ማረሚያ ቤት የምትገኘውን ጋዜጠኛ ርዕዮት አለሙን ለመጠየቅ በዛ ያሉ የሞያ አጋሮቿና አድናቂዎቿ በስፍራው ተገኝተው ነበር፡፡ የጠያቂዎቹ በዛ ብሎ የመገኘት ዋነኛ ምክንያት ደግሞ ርዕዮት በቅርቡ የዩኔስኮን የ2013 አለም አቀፍ ሽልማት በማግኘቷ እንኳን ደስ አለሽ በማለት የደስታዋ ተካፋይ መሆናቸውን ለመግለጽ ነበር፡፡ የባልንጀሮቿን የደስታ ምኞት እየተቀበለች ለሁሉም ሽልማቱ የእርሷ ብቻ እንዳልሆነም ትገልጽ ነበር፡፡

ርዕዮት ጠያቂዎቿን በመቀበል እያነጋገረች በነበረችበት ሰዓት(ሰኞ ዕለት) የቪዲዩ ካሜራ በመደገን ለመቅረጽ ይሞክር የነበረ አንድ ሰው በጋዜጠኞች እይታ ስር ይወድቃል፡፡ ርዕዮት ላይ ያነጣጠረው ካሜራ የፈለገውን እንዳያገኝም በስፍራው የነበሩ ሰዎች ጋዜጠኛዋን በመክበብ ምስሏን እንዳይቀርጽ አድርገዋል፡፡ በጠያቂዎቿ እንደተከበበች ርዕዮትን መቅረጽ ያልሆነለት ስውሩ ጋዜጠኛ በመጨረሻ ርዕዮትን ነጥሎ ለማናገር ይሞክራል፡፡ በዚህ ወቅት ግን የጠያቂዎች ሰዓት በማለቁ የርዕዮት ጠያቂዎች ማረሚያ ቤቱን ለቅቀው እንዲወጡ ተደርገዋል፡፡

የፍኖተ ነጻነት ምንጮች እንዳረጋገጡት ጋዜጠኛው ርዕዮትን በማግኘት ‹‹አንቺ ጋዜጠኛ አይደለሽ፣ በራስሽ የምትተማመኚ ከሆነስ ለምን ለመቀረጽ እምቢ ትያለሽ›› ይላታል፡፡ ርዕዮትም  ‹‹ከአንተ ጋር ከመነጋገሬ በፊት የማረሚያ ቤቱን ሃላፊዎች  ማነጋገር እፈልጋለሁ›› በማለቷ ሃላፊዎቹ ይመጣሉ፡፡ ርዕዮት ቀጠለች‹‹ይህ ጋዜጠኛ የሚፈልገውን ቃለ ምልልስ የመስጠት ችግር የለብኝም፣ ነገር ግን የተናገርኩትን ቆራርጦና ጨማምሮ ሊያቀርበው የሚችል በመሆኑ የነጻ ሚዲያ አባላት በቃለ ምልልሱ ወቅት እንዲገኙ ይደረግ፣ ከዚህ ውጪ ግን ለጥያቄው ምንም አይነት ትብብር እንደማላደርግ ይታወቅልኝ›› በማለት አቋሟን ግልጽ አድርጋለች፡፡

እንደሚታወቀው መንግስት በሽብርተኝነት ከስሶ በእስራት እንድትቀጣ እያደረጋት የምትገኘው ጋዜጠኛ የጤንነቷ ሁኔታ አሳሳቢ ደረጃ ላይ እንደሚገኝ መገለጹን ተከትሎ በአገር ውስጥና በውጪ መንግስት ላይ ከፍተኛ ጫና እየተደረገ ይገኛል፡፡ የጋዜጠኞች መብት ተሟጋቹ ሲፒጄን ጨምሮ የአውሮፓ ፓርላማ አባል የሆኑት ሚስ አና ጎሜዝ፤ የአሜሪካ ስቴት ዲፓርትመንትና ሌሎች አለም አቀፍ ተቋማት ጋዜጠኛዋ ተገቢውን የህክምና ክትትል እንድታገኝ መጠየቃቸው አይዘነጋም፡፡

በቤኒሻንጉል ጉምዝ ክልል ከ2000 ሺህ በላይ ትግሬዎች ባለይዞታ መሆናቸውንና ማንም ሳይነካቸው በሰላም እንደሚኖሩ፣ በቶጎ ወረዳ ከስልሳ በላይ ነባር የህወሃት ታጋዮች ሰፋፊ የእርሻ መሬት ወስደው በባለሃብት ደረጃ እንደሚገኙ የመኢአድ የስራ አስፈጻሚ ኮሚቴ አባል አስታወቁ። ከሌሎች ብሔረሰቦች ተለይቶ የዘር ማጥፋት ወንጀል እየተፈጸመበት ያለውን የአማራ ብሔረሰብ በድጋሚ ለማስወጣት መታቀዱንም በመረጃ ማረጋገጣቸውን ተናግረዋል።

በቦታው በመገኘት አስፈላጊውን መረጃ እንደሰበሰቡ ለአሜሪካ ሬዲዮ የገለጹት የመኢአድ ስራ አስፈጻሚ በክልሉ ከሚኖሩት የተለያዩ ብሔረሰቦች ተለይቶ የአማራ ብሔረሰብ እንዲፈናቀልና እንዲሰቃይ የሚደረገው በማዕከላዊ መንግስት ትዕዛዝ እንደሆነም አመልክተዋል።

መኢአድ ያሰራጨውን መግለጫ ተከትሎ በተዘጋጀ ጋዜጣዊ መግለጫ ማብራሪያ የሰጡት አቶ ሃይሉ ሻወል፣ ድርጊቱ በበታች የቀበሌና ወረዳ አመራር አካላት ተፈጽሟል መባሉን ተቃውመዋል።”ሰዎቹ እንዲወጡ ሲታዘዝ ያ ሁሉ ወታደር ከየት መጣ?” በማለት የጠየቁት አቶ ሃይሉ ሻወል፣ በርካታ የወያኔ ሰዎች በቦታው እያሉ አማራው ተለይቶ እንዲፈናቀል የበታች ባለስልጣናት በራሳቸው ውሳኔ ይህን ሊያደርጉ እንደማይችሉ ተናግረዋል። በማያያዝም በርካታ ተጨባጭ ማስረጃ ስለተሰባሰበ ጉዳዩን ወደ ዓለምአቀፉ የወንጀለኞች ፍርድ ቤት ለመውሰድ በዝግጅት ላይ እንደሚገኙ አመልክተዋል።

ኢትዮጵያ የብዙ ብሔረሰቦችና ሀይማኖት ተከታዮች ሀገር ናት። እነዚህ ብሔረሰቦች ለብዙ ዘመናት በአንድነትና በሕብረት ተደጋግፈው፤ ተጋብተውና ተስማምተው ኖረዋል። ከውጭ የመጣባቸውን ጠላትም በተባበረ ክንዳቸው መክተው በመመለስ በዓለም ታዋቂ ታረክ አስመዝግበዋል። በአሁኑ ወቅት ከመሀከላቸው የበቀሉ ተንኮለኞች  ለፓለቲካ ሥልጣንና ለግል ጥቅም ማራመጃ ሲሉ የሚያካሂዱትን የመከፋፈል እርምጃ የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ  በተከታታይ እያከሸፈው ቢሆንም፤ በአሁኑ ወቅት በጦር ኃይል እያስገደዱ በአንድ ብሔረስብ ላይ ያተኮረ  አስከፊና አደገኛ የዘር ማጥፋት ተግባር እያከናወኑ ይገኛሉ።

ይህንን ሰላም ወዳድና በሰላም የኖረ ሕዝብ እርስ በራሱ በማጋጨትና አንዱ በአንዱ ላይ እንዲነሳሳ የትግራይ ሕዝብ ነፃ አውጭ ግንባር/ሕወሓት መሪዎች ከፅንሳቸው ጀምረው በፖሊሲ ደረጃ ነድፈው እስካሁን በማስፈጸም ላይ ይገኛሉ። ወደፊትም በሥልጣናቸው ለመቆየትና ከሕዝብ የሚዘርፉትን ንብረት ካለምንም ተቃውሞ ለማካሄድ ወገኖቻችንን በዘርና በቋንቋ በመለያየት ለዘመናት ከኖሩበት አካባቢ ጭካኔ በተመላበት ሁኔታ ሆን ተብሎ በተቀየስ የዘር ማጥራት ፖሊሲ አማካኝነት ለጊዜው ከተወሰኑ ክልሎች በማፈናቀል ላይ ናቸው።

የትግራይ ሕዝብ ነፃ አውጭ ግንባር ከአመስራረቱ ጀምሮ በተለይም በአማራው ኅብረተሰብ ላይ ያነጣጠረ የዘር ጥላቻ ፓሊሲ በተለያየ መልኩ ሲያስፈጽምና ተግባራዊ ሲያደርግ ቆይቷል። ይህም ድርጊቱ በአጭሩ ካልተቀጨ በቀር በደቡብ አፍሪካና በሩዋንዳ ሀገሮች ከተካሄዱት የዘር ማጥፋት ዘመቻዎች የማይተናነስ ዕልቂት በአገራችን ሊደርስ እንደሚችል መገመተ አያዳግትም። በቅርቡ ከቤንሻንጉል-ጉሙዝ ክልል ወደ 8000 የሚሆኑ ኢትዮጵያውያን የአማራ ተወላጆች በመሆናቸው ብቻ ከሚኖሩበት አካባቢ ለቀው እንዲወጡ መደረጋቸው የዚህ አንዱ ማስረጃ ነው። ከእነዚህ ውስጥም በርካታ ሕፃናት፣ እርጉዞችና አዛውንቶች እንደሚገኙበት ታውቆአል። ተፈናቃይ ወገኖቻችን ያፈሩትን ንብረት እንኳን ሳይሸጡና ሳያሰባስቡ በመሣሪያ ኃይል ተገደው እንዲባረሩ በመደረጉ ብዙዎች ለከፋ አደጋና  እስከ ሞት የሚያደርስ ጉዳት ተዳርገዋል።

State Department slams Ethiopia on human rights

(OPride) — The U.S. government on Friday commended activists, netizens, and journalists for their courage in advocating for universal human rights and expressed concern over the heightened crackdown on civil liberties, rebuking several countries for shrinking the space for journalists and activists.

 In its 36th annual report of human rights practices around the world, the State Department criticized the increased suppression of freedoms of expression, assembly, association and religion. The report said governments continued to repress or attack the means by which individuals organize and “demand better performance from their rulers” by instituting new impending laws throughout 2012.

The State Department report singled out Ethiopia for its use of “counter terrorism or extremism as a pretext for suppressing freedom of expression.” It added the ruling party, EPRDF, used anti-terrorism legislation to prosecute journalists, opposition members, and activists.

The report's expanded section on Ethiopia, a key U.S. ally on the war on terror,contained damning criticisms of  the country's human rights violations. It documented “politically motivated trials and convictions of opposition figures, activists, journalists, and bloggers, as well as increased restrictions on print media.” The report also highlighted the use of force and arrest of Muslims, who’ve been protesting against what they say is government interference in religious matters for close to two years now.
