I followed roundtable discussion among Adissu, Tizita and Henok regarding the Saudi humanitarian crisis Ethiopians facedonVOA’s this past Sunday program.The Western Media’s absence is not because of lack of the organizers reach to them. It is because of the “Saudi Arabia factor “.

The American medias downplayed the 9/11 Terrorist attack Saudi’s origin knowing that 18 out of 19 were Saudis citizens. This is because of the Saudi Arabia Huge Money in companies owning the major medias.

There were not any protest against Saudi Arabia following 9/11 even if the 18th terrorist were Saudis. Osama Bin Laden recruited 18 Saudis to kill 3000 innocent citizens. The Saudi regime has involved in world affairs that brought war in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Somalia and currently in Syria.

The Saudi Royals friendship with America brought us the war in Middle East and beyond. No wonder the American medias are not interested in anything that antagonized the Saudi Kingdom because they do not want to destroy their investment interest amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars.

Ethiopia: Top human rights watchdog investigates Ethiopia and Botswana

November 27, 2013 (Survival International) – The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the region’s top human rights body, has called for the forced relocation of thousands of tribal people in Ethiopia to be halted, and has raised concerns over the denial of rights of Botswana’s Bushmen.

The Commission urged Ethiopia to stop the forced resettlement of the Lower Omo Valley tribes to make way for vast plantations, while it investigates allegations of human rights violations.

Ethiopia’s policy of ‘villagization’ is enforced by the military, and numerous reports of killings, beating, rapes, and imprisonment of local tribal people have surfaced – which both Ethiopia’s largest single donors, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and USAID, are aware of.

A recent report, ‘Ignoring abuse in Ethiopia: DFID and USAID in the Lower Omo Valley’ by the Oakland Institute, revealed that despite investigations by the donor agencies which uncovered grave human rights violations, the agencies failed to take any action and have called the allegations ‘unsubstantiated’.

Racism and Hate Running Through the Streets: Ethiopian Migrants Victimized in Saudi Arabia

November 23, 2013 (Counter Punch) — In the last 10 days persecution of Ethiopian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia has escalated. Men and women are forced from their homes by mobs of civilians and dragged through the streets of Riyadh and Jeddah. Distressing videos of Ethiopian men being mercilessly beaten, kicked and punched have circulated the Internet and triggered worldwide protests by members of the Ethiopian diaspora as well as outraged civilians in Ethiopia. Women report being raped, many repeatedly, by vigilantes and Saudi police. Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT), has received reports of fifty deaths and states that thousands living with or without visas have been detained awaiting repatriation. Imprisoned, many relay experiences of torture and violent beatings.

Earlier this year the Saudi authorities announced plans to purge the kingdom of illegal migrants. In July, King Abdullah extended the deadline for them to “regularize their residency and employment status [from 3 rd July] to November 4th. Obtain the correct visa documentation, or risk arrest, imprisonment and/or repatriation. On 6th November, Inter Press Service (IPS) reports, Saudi police, “rounded up more than 4,000 illegal foreign workers at the start of a nationwide crackdown,“ undertaken in an attempt (the authorities say), to reduce the 12% unemployment rate “creating more jobs for locals”.

Leading up to the “crackdown” many visa-less migrants left the country: nearly a million Bangladeshis, Indians, Filipinos, Nepalis, Pakistanis and Yemenis are estimated to have left the country in the past three months. More than 30,000 Yemenis have reportedly crossed to their home country in the past two weeks,” and around 23,000 Ethiopian men and women have “surrendered to Saudi authorities” [BBC].

Leave alone our fellow Oromos, we do not wish such dehumanizing, barbaric, and vicious violence being inflicted on any human being whatsoever. Although officials of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have every right to ask foreigners to leave their country, it should be done in a civilized fashion where people are not dehumanized and abused. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the UN Charter, has an obligation to observe and protect human rights and treat immigrants in accordance to international law.

ETHIOPIANS COME IN UNISON AGAINST MURDERERS AND RAPISTS OF SAUDI ARABIA

Ethiopians are protesting in thousands against the ongoing murder of our men and gang rape of our women, incarceration of our brothers and sisters in subhuman and degrading conditions by Saudi authorities throughout the main cities of the world. London is not an exception, except that the turnout has not been witnessed anywhere in the world! Hundreds of metropolitan police in yellow reflective force failed to contain thousands of protesters, therefore a special force in black, armed to the teeth in riot gears, took over to manage the crowed and protect the Embassy of Saudi Arabia from angry and outraged Ethiopians.

November 15, 2013, ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA (AP) –  Ethiopian police have used force to disperse hundreds of people protesting against targeted attacks on Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia.

Police units Friday blocked roads to prevent the protest at Saudi Arabia Embassy from growing. Some two dozen people were detained.

The police forced some journalists to delete photos. The government’s spokesman, Shimelis Kemal, wasn’t immediately available for comment.

One protester, Asfaw Michael, who was beaten, said he didn’t understand why Ethiopia wanted to shield Saudi Arabia from the protest.

Many foreign workers in Saudi Arabia are fleeing or are under arrest amid a crackdown on the kingdom’s 9 million migrant laborers. Close to 500 Ethiopians have been repatriated.

Last weekend, Saudi residents fought with Ethiopians. Video emerged of a crowd dragging an Ethiopian from his house and beating him.

Oromo Community of Minnesota Elects New Board Members

(OPride) – The Oromo Community of Minnesota (OCM) elected a new board last weekend in a successful gathering hailed as ‘historic.’

At least 300 people attended the event, according to the organizers.
Minnesota is home to the largest Oromo diaspora community, estimated at more than 45,000 people. However, despite being the largest and one of oldest Oromo community organizations in the world, in recent years, OCM has struggled to energize and rally this thriving community for its activities. The latest election is said to be ‘historic and exemplary’ for two notable improvements over previous years.
First, the current leadership is the most diverse in terms of age and gender with three young leaders and three women making up the nine member board. According to eyewitnesses, for the first time, the three youth leaders – veterans of Oromia Youth Association and the International Oromo Youth Association – have come forward to voluntarily serve their community. In the past, both the youth and women were assigned one representative each to dedicated posts named “youth and women affairs.”

የሳውዲ መንግሥት ለ ሁለተኛ ጊዜ የሰጠው የምህረት አዋጅ ቀነ ገደብ ካበቃበት ካለፈው እሁድ አንስቶ በተካሄደ የፖሊስ ክትትል ሁለት ኢትዮጵያውያን መገደላቸውን ሳውዲ የሚኖሩ ኢትዮጵያውያን አስታወቁ ። እነዚሁ ነዋሪዎች እንዳሉት ባለፉት ሶስት ቀናት ከሞቱት ሌላ በርካታ ኢትዮጵያውያን ታፍሰዋል ።

በአስር ሽዎች የሚቆጠሩ ደግሞ ከሞላ ጎደል ሥራቸውን አቁመዋል። የጅዳው ወኪላችን ነበዩ ሲራክ እንደዘገበው የምህረቱ የመጨረሻ ቀን ካለፈ በኋላ መንግስት በወሰደው እርምጃ ከ 5 ሺህ በላይ የተለያዩ ሃገራት ዜጎች ተይዘዋል። መንግሥት ሕገወጥ የሚላቸው እነዚህ የውጭ ዜጎች የሁለት ዓመት እሥራትና 100 ሺህ የሳውዲ ሪያል ቅጣት ይጠብቃቸዋል። ከምህረት አዋጁ ማለቅ በኋላ በጂዳ የኢትዮጵያውያን ዓለም ዓቀፍ ትምህርት ቤት ሥራ መስተጓጎሉንም ነብዩ ሲራክ ከጅዳ ዘግቧል ።

በአዲስ አበባ ቦሌ ክፍለ ከተማ ሩዋንዳ ሰፈር የደረሰውን ፍንዳታ አስመልክቶ ኢህአዴግ ያሰራጨውን ዜና የሚቃረኑ መረጃዎችና አስተያየቶች ቀረቡ። ለኢህአዴግ ቅርበት ያላቸው የፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች የድጋፍ አስተያየት ሲሰጡ ዶ/ር መረራ “አትፍቶ ጠፊ አጥፍቶ ይጠፋል እንጂ በሜዳ ዝም ብሎ አያጠፋም” ሲሉ ጥርጣሬ እንዳላቸው ተናግረዋል። የትግራይ ህዝብ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ንቅናቄ /ትህዴን/ በፍንዳታው የሞቱት ኢትዮጵያውያን ናቸው ሲል ስም ገልጾ የኢህአዴግን ዜና አጠጥሎታል።

በፓርላማ አስቸኳይ ስብሰባ እንዲጠራ የጠየቁት ከኢህአዴግ ጋር ግንኙነት እንዳላቸው የሚታሙ ፓርቲዎች “የጸረ ሽብርተኞች አዋጅ ሊጠናከርና ሊጠብቅ ይገባል” ሲሉ ተደምጠዋል። የኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን ያነጋገራቸው የኢራፓ፣ የኢሴዳፓ፣ ቅንጅትና አዲአን ተወካዮች በየተራ የኢህአዴግን ዜና የሚቃወሙና በጥርጣሬ የሚመለከቱትን አውግዘዋል። በወቅቱ የቴሌቪዥን ጣቢያውም አንድነትና የሰማያዊ ፓርቲ ጠርተውት በነበረው ሰላማዊ የተቃውሞ ሰልፍ ላይ “የጸረ ሽብርተኛነት አዋጅ ለሌላ ተግባር መዋሉን እንቃወማለን” በማለት የተቃውሞ ድምጻቸውን ሲያሰሙ በማሳየት ዜናውን ለማጀቢያነት ተጠቅሞበት ነበር።

ኢትዮጵያ ግራ በሚያጋባና ሊተነበይ በማይችል የፖለቲካ ቀውስ ውስጥ መገኘቷን ያመኑ የህወሃት ሰዎች መካካል የእርቅ ሃሳብ ላይ ለማተኮር እቅድ እንዲያዝ ሃሳብ ማንሳታቸው ተሰማ። ኢህአዴግ የቀድሞው የአፈና ገመዱ መንተቡን የሚያሳዩ ምልክቶች መታየታቸውና አለመተማመን መንገሱ ተጠቆመ።

ለጎልጉል መረጃ በመስጠት የሚታወቁ የኢህአዴግ ከፍተኛ አመራርና ዲፕሎማት እንዳሉት ህወሃት ውስጥ “እርቅ አስፈላጊ ነው” በሚል እቅድ እንዲያዝና እንዲሰራበት ሃሳብ ቀርቧል። በድርጅቱ ውስጥ በተፈጠረ አለመተማመን ሳቢያ ስጋት የገባቸው የህወሃት ሰዎች የእርቅ ሃሳብ እንዲሰራበት ያቀረቡት ሃሳብ ግን በመደበኛ ስብሰባ አይደለም።

በህወሃትና ህወሃት በሚያዛቸው አቻ ፓርቲዎች መካከል ያለው የመከባበርና የመገዛት ስሜት ከመለስ ሞት በኋላ መበላሸቱ፣ በኢህአዴግም ሆነ በህወሃት ደረጃ የተፈጠረው ልዩነትና በሙስና ስም የተጀመረውን ዘመቻ ተከትሎ የተነሳው አለመግባባት አደጋ እንዳያስከትል ተፈርቷል። የመረጃው ምንጭ እንደሚሉት በጣም ጥቂት ካልሆኑ በስተቀር ከሙስና የጸዱ አለመኖራቸው “ማን ንጹህ ሆኖ ማንን ይጠይቃል?” የሚል ቅሬታ አስነስቷል።

Ethiopia’s shrinking prime minister

November 8, 2013 (Ethiopian Review) — The two TPLF factions are appearing to be close to resolving their differences and turning their attention to getting back the prime minister’s position from their puppet, Hailemariam Desalegn, according to Ethiopian Review sources. The Sibhat Nega faction reportedly has the upper hand, and Abay Woldu and friends have chosen to retreat instead of getting crushed. TPLF insiders have informed Ethiopian Review sources that Tewodros Hagos has emerged as a consensus choice to lead the party and become the next prime minister, but Sibhat Nega’s camp is still campaigning to put Teodros Adhanom in the PM’s office. And Hailemariam is done. He is to be disposed of before the 2015 fake elections get underway, our sources said.

It’s been over a year since Hailemariam became the prime minister in Ethiopia, taking over from the khat-addicted former dictator Meles Zenawi who died in July 2012. Under the Woyanne constitution, the prime minister in Ethiopia has dictatorial powers. Meles Zenawi and his wife used the position to loot the country, mete out punishments against their political opponents, and launch adventurous wars, among other misdeeds. Hailemariam, who claims to be a devout Christian, could have used such power to good use. Instead, he has allowed the TPLF junta to continue using him as a puppet, loot the country and torment the people. After one year in power, Hailemariam has not only done any thing good for Ethiopia, his stature, which was small to begin with, grew even smaller. With his slavish behavior toward the TPLF junta, he made himself useful only to his masters. In the end, he will be remembered as a puppet and a coward who lives only to fill his stomach.

በአንቀጽ 71 ንዑስ አንቀጽ 2 መሰረት ሚኒስቴሩ ከውጭ አገር ወደ አገር ውስጥ የሚያስገባቸው ለአገር መከላከል ዓላማ የሚውሉ ዕቃዎችና መሳሪያዎች ከጉምሩክ ቀረጥና ታክስ በነጻ እንደሚያስገባ የደነገገ ሲሆን፤ ዕቃዎቹን እንዲያስፈትሽ ወይም ሰነዶቹን እንዲያስመረምር እንደማይገደድ አስቀምጧል።

Four killed in bomb blast as Ethiopia raises security alert: official

November 6, 2013 (Reuters) – Four people were killed when a bomb blast tore through a minibus in western Ethiopia late on Tuesday, at about the same time that the government warned of imminent attacks by militants, an official said.

The official, speaking to Reuters on Wednesday, said nobody had claimed responsibility for the blast.

Addis Ababa put its security forces on heightened alert on Tuesday night after receiving strong evidence that Somalia’s Islamist al Shabaab group was plotting assaults.

It was not clear whether the blast occurred before or after that warning.

“The bomb exploded on Tuesday inside a minibus travelling in Segno Gebeya,” government spokesman Shimeles Kemal said, referring to a region bordering Sudan.

“No one has claimed responsibility yet. The case is under investigation.”

The warning came three weeks after officials said two Somali suicide bombers accidentally blew themselves up while preparing for an attack on football fans during Ethiopia’s World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria.

ስየ አብርሃ የኢትዮዽያ ሰራዊት አሰባስቦ የህወሓት/ኢህአዴግ መንግስት ለመገልበጥ እያሴረ ነው በሚል ህወሓቶች ተሸብረዋል

ህወሓቶች ባስቸኳይ ስብሰባዎች ተወጥረዋል። ሰሞኑ በመቐለ ከተማ የደህንነቶች፣ የታማኝ ካድሬዎችና የምክርቤት ስብሰባዎች ነበሩ/አሉ። የተጨናነቁበት አንድ ጉዳይ አለ።

ህወሓቶች ካድሬዎችን ሰብሰበው የሆነ ግለሰብ ወይ አካል ዒላማ አድርገው ስሙ በማጥፋት ከህዝብ ለመነጠል ጥረት ያደርጋሉ። ቀደም ሲል “አብርሃ ደስታ የሚፅፋቸው ነገሮች ዉሸት ናቸው እያልን ህዝብ እንዳይሰማው እናድርግ” በሚል አብርሃ ደስታ በመላው ትግራይ በራሳቸው አንደበት አስተዋውቀውታል።

አሁን ደግሞ በመላው ትግራይ ስለ ስየ አብርሃ መጥፎ በመናገር ስሙ ለማጥፋት ታቅዷል። በህወሓት መንደር ዋነኛ ስጋት የፈጠረው (ባሁኑ ሰዓት) አብርሃ ደስታ ወይ ዓረና ፓርቲ አይደለም፤ ስየ አብርሃ እንጂ። ስየ እንዴት ለህወሓቶች ስጋት ፈጠረ? ‘ስየ ከፖለቲካ ራሱ አግሏል’ እየተባለ አልነበረም?

BREAKING: ONLF captures a village in the Godey Zone

November 2, 2013 (Ogaden today Press)- Sources close to the Ogaden regional administration confirmed to Ogaden today Press that ONLF captured the village of Bantureed near the city of Godey in the Beercaano district.

This attack took place last night according to the sources who spoke to Ogaden today press

According to the sources, Ethiopian soldiers who are regionally known as the “Liyuu Police” were killed in the attack.

The Ethiopian government sent a lot of its troops from the city of Godey to the village and its surrounding where they began arresting both “Liyuu Police” and civilians in the area and accusing them of standing idly and doing nothing when the ONLF were present in the city and when they were taking ammunition and weapons from a weapons depot

Sources so far confirm that amongst those who were arrested include the following names. These people were given 10 years of imprisonment.
